Nelli Kim - Belarus

NELLI KIM, born in Chimkent, Kazakhstan, in 1957, began gymnastics at the age of seven. Her first major success came when she won a bronze medal on beam at the 1974 World Championships. A year later, at the European Championships, she won four medals, including a silver in the All-Around and gold on the floor exercise.
Then, at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Nelli Kim was the only gymnast other than Nadia Comaneci to score a perfect 10 -- a mark she earned twice enroute to winning the silver medal in the All-Around and gold medals on floor exercise and vault.
By the time her career was finished, she had won eight World Championship medals, eight European medals, and four Olympic medals, three of them gold.
After her competitive career, Nelli Kim lived in Minsk and continued to contribute to gymnastics, serving as the state coach of Belarus through 1995. In 1996, she was elected to the FIG Women's Technical Committee, where she continues to serve as one of our sport's most impressive ambassadors.
